I’ve admired Courtney Marama’s work for years.
She only accepts a handful of bespoke commissions each year, so I wrote to her and told her why I wanted a ring—not as an engagement ring, but as a promise to myself.
After everything I’d been through, I realized the longest relationship I’ll ever have is the one I have with myself. This ring is a reminder to honor that relationship every day.
Months later, it’s finally here.
Courtney hand-cut the deep green Pounamu from Aotearoa New Zealand and crafted the ring herself. Her work is deeply rooted in her Māori heritage and in honoring Papatūānuku (Mother Earth). Every stone she uses is locally sourced, every piece is made by hand, and every decision reflects respect for the land that provides these beautiful gifts.
Even the box tells a story. It’s handcrafted in New Zealand from sustainably harvested timber, designed so the grain flows seamlessly between the lid and base. Purchasing it also supports landscape regeneration initiatives.
That level of thoughtfulness makes me love this piece even more.
This isn’t just jewelry.
It’s a daily reminder that choosing yourself isn’t selfish. Sometimes it’s the bravest promise you’ll ever make.
Thank you, Courtney, for creating something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.
